The Pros And Cons Of Over The Counter Orthotics

By Brenda Warner

There are many people who are looking for ways to find relief for their foot problems. To do this, they usually look to over the counter orthotics as a way to cope with issues like heel spurs and overpronation. However, not all of these products work in the way they should especially if a person does not know what to get. Here are the pros and cons of using these types of products.

One of the things that attracts people to ready-made foot care products is the price. To get products of this nature, custom-made can cost a few hundred dollars which for most people is a bit too expensive. In order to compensate, they turn to products that are readily available and that can give them the relief they are seeking from their foot issues.

They are easily accessible by the public. These types of foot care products are easy to access in that one does not have to go through a specialist to get what is needed. This is one of the reasons why these items are so popular in advertising and the media. There are also machines available in select stores that allow a person to see which insole is best for their feet.

Variety is another positive aspect of ready-made foot care products. This is not to say that a variety of custom-made items cannot be found for the feet. In many stores, people can find something specific to whatever issues they are experiencing. This could be ankle problems, calluses anywhere on the feet, heel spurs, and arch problems.

Products that are readily available might not work that well. Since products found in a drugstore or pharmacy are for the general public, it does not mean that one will find what they are looking for. Many times an individual might find the right product through trial and error or by working with a foot doctor who is familiar with their issue.

They do not last as long as the custom-made foot care products. Due to the quality of the materials that are used, certain items do not last as long as those that are custom-made. This is not to say that one cannot find well made products at a drugstore, but it is something to consider when making a decision to get foot care products that are worth the money.

Ready-made products might not be suitable for unique foot problems. This could also be true for custom-made products due to a problem being misdiagnose because it has never been seen before. On the other hand, a person has a better chance of finding a solution than going to a store to get a product that was designed for many different people.

Even though one might get great results from using products that are readily available, it is still best to have a specialist determine the best course to take. It all depends on how much money one is able to spend and the severity of their problem. In any case, it is always good to get as much information as possible before making a decision.
